Richard P. "Rick" Liblong is a Michiganian, having lived in the state for nearly a half century, even though he now lives in Virginia with his wife, Sue.
Rick is passionate about and has studied Michigan and American history since childhood. After reading a special edition of MICHIGAN HISTORY magazine entitled “Thank God for Michigan!” he decided to tell the stories of some of the men from rural Michigan in the Civil War and used his hometown of Almont and Lapeer County as an example.
Rick holds a communications degree from Michigan State University and served as a communications manager for The Dow Chemical Company, as Communications Director for a United States Senator and as Public Affairs Director for a U.S. Government agency. He was named an “Outstanding Alumni in the Department of Communication Arts and Sciences” at Michigan State University in 2008.
In recent years, he has been a writer and consultant. He began his writing career at The Almont Times-Herald in the early 1960s and is the author of numerous articles published in MICHIGAN HISTORY as well as many other newspapers and magazines.
